What should I do if my water heater is leaking from the top?

A leak from the top of your water heater usually means a loose inlet/outlet fitting or an issue with the temperature-pressure relief (TPR) valve. Turn off the water and power, then schedule service in Peru.

Quick steps:

  • Turn the cold-water shutoff (above the tank) to OFF.
  • Cut power: switch the breaker OFF, or set gas control to Pilot/Off.
  • Towel-dry and note where water starts (inlet/outlet, TPR valve cap).
  • Do not remove panels or drain if unsure.
  • Our technicians can test the TPR valve and repair or replace parts.
